Cannot Share Files on the Network

Today I have faced some issue in one of the PC of my friend in her office. I am a technician and I was called to fix the problem . She can access the internet but she cannot share files and view shared files on the network.

After checking everything I found the cause of the problem, The default workgroup name of her PC was changed. Another problem was I cannot add the machine to the domain because the option to click the "change" button is greyed out and therefore cant change the workgroup name.

To fix this problem we need to do the following procedures.

* In run command, open the services.msc
* Search the workstation services and start it.
* Then change the workgroup into its default name.

Note that the workstation service is the client for Microsoft networks and if it is stopped, it affects your computers ability to communicate on the LAN.

If workstation services is missing try to installing it from the Local Area Network connection properties.

Facebook Location Features

According to the report on the NYT’s Bits blog facebook will be adding a location features. This sounds really interesting. Site users, according to the post, will be able to add their locations to status updates on Facebook. Assuming that this is true, do you like the idea of location-based features on Facebook?

Sometimes while we enjoy updating our friends about what's happening in our life, we prefer people not know where we are because there are times that to let them know and to broadcast that information to everyone seems dangerous. It is like to announce to the world that we are not home and it is safer for the criminals to burglarize our homes or it is like a way of pin pointing where you are, which is good for your stalkers or anyone who is desperate enough to find you.

On the other hand, why do we afraid of letting the world know where we are? It is obvious that majority of us are not at home during working hours. Besides this is not new in the history of social networking sites, Twitter and Google Buzz already have that feature. Maybe we have nothing to worry and just embrace the technology. This is also advantageous for the parents to monitor their children.

I think this will be a big impact in privacy issue and maybe there will be few complains unless this is locked down tightly by security features but this is very helpful in some user in many ways.

The usefulness and the disadvantages in this idea will be only known when this will be implemented. This would be a nice thing to have, but we have to be very careful about it.

Danger of Using F1 key: XP User

If you're an XP user then you are using internet explorer for browsing the web and see a notice that you should press the F1 key (help button for any application), please don't do.

Microsoft has told Windows XP users not to press the F1 key when prompted by a Web site, as part of its reaction to an unpatched vulnerability that hackers could exploit to hijack PCs running Internet Explorer.

In a security advisory issued late Monday, Microsoft confirmed the unpatched bug in VBScript that first revealed by Polish researcher Maurycy Prodeus last Friday. Prodeus offered more information on the flaw and provided some advice on how to protect PCs until a patch shipped. He said that the vulnerability exists in the way that VBScript interacts with Windows Help files when using Internet Explorer and If a malicious website displayed a specially crafted dialog box and a user pressed the F1 key, arbitrary code could be executed in the security context of the currently logged-on user.

As of now Microsoft continue to encourage responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities. They are advising users that, until a patch can be written and released, users are advised not to press the F1 key while web browsing even how many times the pop-up convincing us to press it.

Blue Screen Problem: System has Recovered from a Serious Error

When computer encountered a blue screen error and has been shutting itself down after saying 'System has recovered from a serious error' there are three reasons why this is happening.

Reasons:

1. This appears to be a hardware issue, caused perhaps by overheating or maybe faulty RAM.
2. The new installed hardware is failing because the necessary driver for that hardware might not be installed, or the driver might be incompatible or corrupted.
3. Virus and spyware problem.

Solutions:

For Problem #1: Make sure to check the CPU fan and clean the RAM by rubbing an eraser to the memory contacts.
For Problem #2: Disconnect the device and please contact the device manufacturer to obtain updated drivers for the device or to learn about any known hardware issues so that you can reinstall the device.
For Problem #3:

Click "Start" and then "Run" to run msconfig and disable all the startup programs.
Download NOOB killers and run the application. The system will automatically restart after the process.
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, install, update and scan the system.

How to Increase Partition (Drive C)

This is how to increase the partition of the system drive (drive C:) without reformatting the system. Nowadays we can easily merge partitions or resize the partition in a very easy way without reformatting or reinstalling the operating system.

First we need to download Easeus Partition Software. This application is free and we can easily download it here.
Install and run the application.
In order to have available space, we need to reduce the other partition like the drive D.
Just click the selected partition and click resize/move.

Now we will notice a small box of grey at the end of the drive, labelled Unallocated.
To add that space to the C: drive, we must first move the Unallocated space between the C: drive and D: drive. To do this, simply click and drag the D: drive to the right, and the Unallocated space will be put in its place (between the C: and D:).
We can now increase the space of the drive C: by resizing the partition.
Click on Apply in the bottom left of the screen, and answer yes to both prompts.
Wait until the process will be finished.

I keep getting " Search Settings 1.2.1" appearing every time I try opening a folder from my computer. I have tried going into Control Panel to Add/Remove programs but it cannot be removed. Here is how to get rid of it.

First in to scan your PC to removed the malware. Try to use Malwarebytes' Anti-malware.
After your system has been cleaned removed the Search Settings 1.2.1 in Add/Remove programs.

There were times that I tried to change the favicon of my blogger blog but I always failed. Thanks that I have found the easiest solution in Blogger Book to change my favicon.
Here are the simple steps of installing favicons in blogger:

Go to your BLOGGER account.
Click on 'Layout'.
Click on 'Edit HTML', and Backup your template.
Convert an image file (jpg, png, gif, etc.) into an image with a .ico extension by using Favicon Generator. It is free and no registration needed.
The generator will generate the .ico image and host the .ico image on the web. It will also give you the ico image URL right after you upload the image.
Right click> copy the code and paste it before end tag of head element as shown below . Then save the template and it's done.

Problem Connecting to Facebook

Hi Guys, Since last week I am having a problem connecting to facebook. I can access all internet but when it comes to logging on to facebook I just get 'internet explorer cannot display webpage' or it displays nothing but a white page after I log in.

I have tried Firefox also and still does not work. There are times also that I need to refresh the browser for so many times before I can connect to facebook. I have also tried to changed the DNS as suggested in google but it doesn't work. I asked some of my friends and they are also experienceing the same problem connecting to facebook.

Now I have found the solution. If you are experiencing a problem connecting to facebook, here is the solution.

Instead of using http://www.facebook.com

Try to change the http to https

Try to use https://www.facebook.com
Note do this after you enter your username and password.

If you cannot log in to MSN messenger? Here are some of the few tips on how to fix this problem:

Sometimes you cannot access gmail.com in your computer yet there is no problem accessing it from another computers in the network. If this will happen to you, your system is surely infected with a malware or a virus.
Here are the solutions to fix this problem.

Sometimes we cannot access gmail because of spyware. Download Malwarebytes anti-malware and scan your system to remove the malware.
Then Click Start > run
Type C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and click OK
Find the host file and double click it.
If the file doesn’t open directly and you will be prompted to ‘Open With’. Choose Notepad or WordPad and click OK as it will look like as the screen shot below.
Edit this file. Remove the other lines to make sure that the only active line is the 127.0.0.1 local host as identical to the screen shot below.
Save and close the file.
If you cannot save the file, rename it as host1 and save it as text file.
Rename the old host file into evil.
Click the host1 file, press F2, remove the file extension and rename it into host.

You can now open the browser and access gmail.com. Remember to stay clear of spywares and viruses to avoid this problem again. Click on how to get rid from virus and spyware.

Early games
Do this as fast as you can and use your first four vehicles to find boxes while doing this. Remember that speed is the key to win.

Deploy the Yuri's construction yard.
Build bio reactor and feed the infantry unit.
Build a two mining vehicles.
Build the barracks then build cannons.
Build the war factory built 5 more mining vehicles to maintain financial stability.
Build the psychic radar.
After building the miners build 10 or more gatling tanks.
Build 2 psychic tower in front of the base to protect any early attacks.
Build more bio reactor.
Build battle lab and build the genetic mutator.
Build more mining vehicles. This is important in the middle game.

Middle games
Preparing for battle. In this part you need to know the kind of defense of your enemy as well as the target for you to prepare the defense.

Build five or more master minds.
Build the psychic dominator.
Activate the genetic mutator in you own miners. Feed some of your brute into bio reactor. Always do this every time the genetic mutator is ready. Brutes can also help in your attacks or in destroying the miner vehicles of your enemy.
This time you can now attack your enemy by using some of your master mind and gatling tanks, and your first four tanks. Remember that the best time to attack the enemy is when they are not yet building a strong defense and whoever attacks first usually wins.
Destroy the defense of the enemy and control their tanks trough the master mind. Remember to always retreat your master mind when controlling units. Controlling more units can destroy the master mind.

Later games
Later in the game when the ore gets scarce every unit counts. When the ore runs out and it takes longer and longer to build more units, this is the time of the best strategy to win.

Built more master minds and deploy it as a defense for your teammates, sometimes Yuri is more effective as defense in later games.
Activate your psychic dominator in mining factory of the enemy this is to have an advantage in money.
Create a Yuri Prime and Let your allied ally to build 1 more barracks then control it.
Then create a Yuri Cloning Vats and create many rocketeers.
Maintain the strategy. Focus in generating more golds as you continually create more master mind and roketeers then attack in perfect time.

Well, that is the strategy . I guess that the best strategy is gained from experience. It is depending on whom you are playing with. Feel free to submit comments for this post, I know you have also some great strategies.

Black Screen on Boot (Gigabyte)

Have you experience when you started your computer and it will never start or it stops with an empty, black screen immediately after the power-on self test (POST) was completed? Here is the simple solution.

Refer to your manual, identify where (usually near the battery) your CMOS pins are located.
Just short the appropriate pins with jumper, and turn on the computer. Of course, the PC will not start and this will reset Bios values to Defaults.
Remove jumper for normal use .
Power on, boot, go to Bios, check/reset your menu settings, Save settings, boot, you're all ok

Today in multi-processor PC, some old PC games are unable to play. Just like the old yuri's revenge which is until now one of my favorites. I love this games most especially when it is play through LAN. To enable this games in Core 2 Duo processors, just follow the following steps.

Steps to run yuri's revenge in mutiprocessor PC:
1. Right click on the exe of the program.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
( Most of the time it works in Windows 98 mode)

a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000

5. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:

a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok. Double click on the program and enjoy the game.

Cannot Log-in to Friendster

Sometimes we cannot log-in to friendster even our password and ID are correct. We can open the friendster website but everytime we try to log-in it will return to the log-in site, and failed to open our friendster account. The problem might be on our internet browser.

To solve this problem, we need to clear our internet browser cookies and temporary internet files inside internet properties, I assume we are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox.

first close all your browsers.
open IE, click Tools - Options - Delete
click delete cookies and delete files will solve the problem
for firefox users, click Tools and Clear private data

If it does not solve the problem, try to install and use another browsers. The best available browsers are safari, chrome, seamonkey, and opera.

How to Remove the Recycle Bin from the Desktop

If you don't use the Recycle Bin to store deleted files , you can get rid of its desktop icon all together.

and go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/Desktop/NameSpace
Click on the "Recycle Bin" string in the right hand pane. Hit Del, click OK.

Can't Hear Sounds Through Internet Browser
